Road to Marathon -- Finding Focus

Joining a marathon is not a joke. That's I what I kept on saying to myself. It's been 5 months since the last time I did some serious running. Each night before I go to bed, I kept on saying to myself that I will wake up early tomorrow to do a bit of exercise. Unfortunately, ended waking up late and no time for exercise. Fine, I'm just lazy and I'm trying to make excuses. wahahah:)

Maybe I just missed those times last year when, I really pushed myself to be healthy. From choice of food, daily routine and lifestyle, It was really a turn around for me. I never believed that fitness should be one time shot, It should be a way of life which I unfortunately failed to live.

In my quest for the road to marathon, let me share my new adventure.

Running or any sport requires endurance, energy and most importantly focus. Yes! focus on the goal and removing all the distractions. :) Because when you have focus, you can stretch your capacity, balance your thoughts and breathe a good perspective.

Together with my officemates, we tried to enroll in a yoga class at yoga+ Makati for an unlimited 1 week session. Perfect timing for my preparation to 42K run a month from now. It is our 2nd day session and I am personally enjoying it. It reminds me the feeling when I was still a theater member and doing warm up before a workshop. wahahaha seriously? lol

We first attended the Warrior Flow which is recommended for the newbies. Basic stretching and pose. Each class last for 90 minutes where you are only allowed to breathe through nose :P

On our second day, we had Flow, which is almost the same with the first class only more complex poses. This class I consider the level 2 of what we previously did.

The third class we attended today is really hot and will surely get you wet. Hot A class where the room is at 36 degree heat and there are aroind 15 to 20 students. Stretching is a bit same with flow but is more extensive, I must say. Plus the pressure of the temperature made it more difficult.

Things to remember in a yoga class. Breathe through the nose. Inhale and exhale. Listen to your body. Know the difference between good pain and bad pain. Free your mind from distractions and keep your eyes on single focal point.

Yoga I think will help a lot in my training as it will built strength on my lower body which is very important on the race. It also teaches me to become more focus on the things I want to achieve by clearing up my mind and removing distractions. Though at times I find it hard to concentrate as I always want to laugh whenever I see my colleagues doing the posts and hearing the instructor commanding.

Just hoping It will work!

Road to Marathon -- Foot Forward

First part of the training is to break in the shoes. New shoes are not allowed in a long distance run as they say. I had my first training this morning and I completely miss doing this. I must say It's really tough to fight against morning sickness specially that my last run was months before the holidays where all the bad food and vices conquered my body.

Few things I want to prepare before the race which I want to share day by day I take my road to full marathon.

1. Nutrition. I must admit I've committed so may sins to my body for the couple number of months. If there's on thing I am afraid that I may fail to do is keeping a goood weight, enough to sustain a good phase or to simply finish the course.

2. Fitness. Doing a marathon requires a physically fit body, has enough stamina and can stand endurance. By this time, I'm still figuring it out how will I gain it within a month,

3. Training. Race is just a day and the whole preparation is the crucial part. Mind setting is a must. This is what I love about the doing a race because It doesn't just train you physically, It also teaches your how to become goal oriented and so your body can perform.

4. Gadgets. At times gadgets helps us to perform better specially on training part. But the only gadget you have on the day of the race is the your best prepared body.

All I have in mind right now is to maximize my one and a half training period to reach that Road to Marathon.

I'll update you soon.

Road to Marathon

I be-break na kita!
That's what I want do with my running shoes. It's been 2 months since I bought it in a sale for the holiday season. Intentionally, I want to write about the lists of running events I want to be participate, well I'll still be doing that once I have time to lay it down hehehe.

Part of writing it down, of course is the training part which is more exciting! Wahahah If I will ever do it, though. Jist hoping that laziness will keep a distance on me heheeh ;)

It was always part of my bucketlist to run full marathon and 2015 could be a perfect time. I just don't know when and what event.

Until my friend from 7-Eleven, +Clemencia‬ Ladia, called me last Christmas eve to greet me and ask me If I'll be joining 7-Eleven Run for 1500. Way back I still don't know If I want to join in that event. I was hesitant because the venue is quite not accessible from my place.

Exactly a month after the offer was made, I finally made up my mind and yes! I'm decided. I will be doing a full marathon this time!

So now, I have to wake up early and do my DIY training which I always do. I never participated in any formal running training because I'm a bit shy and lazy to do it maybe.

I just wish I'll have the energy to wake up each morning run a minimum 5K to at least I'll have a bit of confidence to do it.

See you all at Skyway Alabang for 7-Eleven Run 1500 2015!

Posting soon are my training. ;)

Blessed Philippines

Since its a long weekend here in Manila to give way for the Apostolic visit of Pope Francis. I took chances to spend some quality time with my friends, So we went to Puerto Galera. Unfortunately, the trip schedules didn't went well as planned. Initially, I was planning to go back to Manila last Saturday so I can make ways to see the Pope. But we were stuck here in Mindoro due to storm signal.

I may not be able to join the crowd in welcoming the Pope, I still feel blessed that the highest leader of our church visited our country. Many thanks to media for making it possible for us to listen to Pope's words.

Here's three words I heard that shoot me in the heart during His encounter with the youth held at UST and how I learn from it.

1. Real love is about loving and letting yourself be loved.
#Hugot but true. Love is a two way road. In the context of loving God, we must love Him every second of ourlives, same as we are being loved by Him all the time, unconditionally.
Same thing goes in loving a person, it's not enough to love someone and not letting yourself be loved.
I know Pope's message in this line doesn't intentionally speak anything about romantic affair but I guess we can also conclude it that way.

2. There are certain realities in life that are only seen in the eyes that are cleansed through tears.
Crying is not a symbol of weakness but a sign of strength. Indeed, tears flowing in our eyes whenever we feel down gives us a better vision of reality, count of what we can do and courage to move forward. Admittedly, in times when we cry that we realize we have Christ that we can lean on. This is when we get closer to Him, know Him better and surrender everything to Him.

3. Think well, feel well and do well. As we keep on saying "Nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa". Thought without act is nothing. Pope also teaches us to be the best of what we have. He didn't say think, feel and do. He emphasizes the need for thinking, feeling and doing things well. For it is when we do well, we think of the betterment of others. It is when we feel well, we surrender our selfishness. And when we do well, we live our purpose.

Thank you very much Pope Francis for touching our lives.

Mabuhay!

Maruya Carey and the Santa Babies

Every Christmas party, I always get excited about the usual group performance. Here's the remake of Santa Baby and the famous All I want for Christmas is You performance way back when I was at Unisell.

This just made me miss my whole team from Unisell...
Nikki Blanco, +Caroline Orcena +AR Polinar +Elma Magbuhos +Joie Pineda +Star Dorado ...

Thanks to my new team as well for allowing me to do  a remake of this performance...
+Melanie Delos Reyes +Fae Magpayo ... I told you guys! It's a winning piece.

Too bad I don't have a copy of the past presentation so we could compare... wahahha...
